About Accounting Freshmen Interest Group

AFIG is the Accounting Freshman Interest Group. This learning community is for College of Business freshmen who are interested in accounting as their major and eventual career and often pursue an accounting degree at KSU. Students in the program participate in specific coursework and co-curricular activities. The goal of the program is to help students gain early insight into the accounting career and major. This is accomplished through numerous measures, such as:

• Attending tours and visits to several accounting firms
• Helping students develop mentor relationships with accounting professionals
• Networking events with KSU accounting faculty
• Having three classes per semester with other AFIG members

After completing the AFIG program in their freshmen year, students will have an increased interest in what accountants do and what possible jobs they may obtain. Accountants are professionals who help individuals, business firms, or government agencies plan for and oversee their financial operations. Accountants may obtain careers in many various industries, such as:

• Public Accounting
• Consulting
• Government
• Business
• Nonprofit organizations
• Taxation
• Data Analysis
• Systems Implementation
• Financial Planning
• Cost Reduction

These are just a few of the professional fields associated with those who earn an accounting degree. In addition, students will investigate other exciting and lesser-known accounting career opportunities through participation in AFIG.
