Ph.D. Student Life

Doctoral Student Management Association (DSMA)

All Ph.D. students of the Graduate School of Management are automatically members of the DSMA. DSMA is a social and professional organization whose purpose is to provide an outlet for the personal growth of Kent's Ph.D. students as well as represent their interests to the College and the University. Activities include a speakers' series, informational seminars and social events. In addition, representatives from DSMA are elected to the University's Graduate Student Senate and the Graduate School of Management Council. A doctoral student is also selected as a member of the Ph.D. Subcommittee.

Graduate Student Senate

The Graduate Student Senate consists of one elected representative from each graduate program. The purpose of the senate is to encourage the formation and expression of issues concerning graduate students.

Health Services

The Health Center at Kent State University is available for all students and is designed to assist students with physical or emotional health problems. There are orthopedic, gynecologic and family planning clinics operating within the facility.

Department of Residence Services

The Department of Residence Services offers special housing for both single and married graduate students. For married students, the University maintains one- and two- bedroom furnished or unfurnished apartments adjacent to campus. For additional University housing information, write or call:

COSO

COSO, the Commuter and Off-Campus Student Organization, is student run and acts as a liaison between Kent's approximately 18,000 off-campus students and the University administration. COSO offers services, such as rental boards of housing available and roommates needed, as well as information, such as apartment and community files. Although COSO is not a legal service, it can offer non-legal advice concerning students' rights. Whether it is a problem with a landlord or a search for a subleaser, COSO will help.

Campus Bus Service

Campus Bus Service provides on-campus shuttle services connecting parking areas, resident hall and academic centers.

University Student Center

This spacious plaza houses dining facilities, meeting and conference rooms, recreational areas, a ballroom, the bookstore and a cinema. Its proximity to the Business Administration Building makes it a convenient and comfortable location for many Graduate School of Management functions.

Disabled Student Services

Disabled Student Services provides assistance to students with various disabilities in order to maximize educational opportunity and individual potential. Services include a campus van service; attendant; reader and interpreter referral; preferred registration; test transcription; and wheelchair repair.
