Teaching Fellowships
The Graduate School of Management offers teaching fellowships to most Ph.D. students on a competitive basis. Departments usually provide students with four years of funding.
Appointments are made competitively based on academic standing and departmental needs. These positions carry academic year stipends of about $12,000 for the Academic year with an option of an additional $3,000 for Summer, plus tuition scholarships to cover fees for up to 12 hours of credit each semester. All appointees must carry at least eight semester hours of graduate credit per semester.
Doctoral students receiving such aid perform a variety of teaching and research duties. Most teaching fellows are expected to provide about twenty hours of teaching and research service per week.
Summer Financial Aid
Some doctoral students may receive summer teaching or research assignments. Summer tuition for doctoral assistants is often waived for up to 6 credit hours.
Direct Loans
Direct and FFEL Stafford Loans are the U.S. government's major form of self-aid. The terms and conditions of a Direct Stafford or a FFEL Stafford are similar. The major differences between the two are the source of the funds, some aspects of the application process and the available repayment plans. Direct and FFEL Stafford Loans are either subsidized or unsubsidized. A subsidized loan is awarded on the basis of financial need, and an unsubsidized loan is not awarded on the basis of financial need.
Students must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) for loan eligibility, which can be obtained from the Office of Student Financial Aid, 103 Michael Schwartz Center, (330) 672-2972.
