Full-time MBA
Welcome to the Full-time MBA program!
Kent State's full-time MBA program offers courses Monday through Thursday. The majority of Management Core courses required for this program are offered during the day, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Most elective courses for the full-time program are available during the evening. Kent State University is on a 15-week semester system, with four shorter Summer sessions. On average, full-time MBA students take four classes per semester. A full selection of courses is also offered during the Summer sessions, however these classes meet for a shorter period (5-weeks) so taking only 1-2 classes in the summer is advisable.
The average length of time to complete the MBA degree is 1.5 - 2 years for a full-time student depending on whether or not the student has an undergraduate degree in business. Students spend time outside the classroom preparing group projects, participating in professional development activities, and attending Graduate Management Association meetings and social events.
After being admitted, you will receive a suggested list of courses to register for during your first semester. After your first semester, advising is done on an individual basis as needed with your advisor. We recommend that students make an appointment to meet with your advisor each semester in order to ensure that you stay on track. Our full-time MBA advisor is available during the day and also one evening per week for convenient advising appointments.

Quantitative and Computer Proficiencies
Two proficiency areas are required to enter the MBA program, quantitative skills and computer skills. Meeting these requirements is determined by successful completion of a prior undergraduate course in Calculus for the quantitative area, and a basic computer skills class. Your program sheet which was included with your admission letter indicates whether these courses are required.
For students lacking a prior quantitative background, an elective course called Survey of Economics (ECON 62010) is required. This course is usually offered each fall semester and counts toward the MBA program as an elective. A quantitative proficiency exam is offered three times per year for those who would like to try to test out of the quantitative proficiency requirement. Contact Felecia Urbanek at furbanek@kent.edu for more information.
For students lacking a prior computer background, a computer skills workshop is recommended. The course should cover MS Word, Power Point, Excel, and Internet usage for research.
Mailboxes
All Full-time MBA students have a locked on-campus mailbox in the hallway outside of the Graduate Office. You can get your mailbox assignment and key in the Graduate Office. There is a $5.00 key deposit that is returned to you when you graduate. Check your mailbox frequently to keep up to date on items pertaining to the schedule, new courses, or activities of interest.
Graduate Assistants
If you have been awarded a graduate assistantship in the College of Business, please meet with Ms. Freida Boland in the Graduate Office (Room A310 BSA) when you arrive on campus in the fall in order to sign your contract.
MBA Mentorship Program
The MBA Mentorship Program is designed to allow Kent State's full-time MBA students an opportunity to observe and develop a relationship, over an extended period of time, with a business professional in their chosen field of study. Not only does the student observe how technical skills are applied in day-to-day situations, the mentoring experience also assists in the student's preparation to enter the world of business in ways not normally addressed in the classroom. This includes learning and practicing business etiquette, refining meeting and networking skills, etc.
The mentor program also assists international students who have not had previous exposure to U.S. business organizations. Student participation in the program is entirely voluntary, as is the participation of mentors. Participating students will be matched with mentors in September. More information about the mentorship program will be given at the Full-time Graduate Student Orientation in August.
