Kent's full-time MBA program provides course offerings Monday through Thursday. The Management Core courses required for this program are offered during the day, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Elective courses for the full-time program are available during the evening.

Full-time MBA students begin in the Fall term and progress through the MBA program as a group. Full-time classes are small and the atmosphere is personalized. Students spend time outside the classroom preparing group projects, participating in professional development activities, and attending Graduate Management Association meetings and social events. The design of the full-time MBA program enables students to develop strong ties with classmates and faculty members. This cooperative spirit fosters both academic and professional development, and often leads to lifelong friendships and associations.

Concentrations

Students may select one area of concentration or select their elective coursework from a wide array of courses in different areas of study. In some situations, students are encouraged to take coursework outside of the Graduate School of Management.

Following is a list of the concentrations currently offered. Links show relevant courses.

Financial Aid

Each year, several entering full-time students receive some form of non-need based assistance (Graduate Assistantships) because of academic and experiential achievements. These awards normally include a tuition scholarship and a stipend for work as an advisor, research assistant or tutor. For consideration, applications for Graduate Assistantships must be received by April 1. Assistantships are available for full-time students only.

Kent's Professional MBA program offers evening classes designed for working professionals in the northeast Ohio region. The Professional MBA program is reflective of the College's commitment to life-long learning and recognition of the unique challenges and demands of the working student.

Professional MBA students take one to two classes per semester and generally complete their MBA degree in 3 to 4 years. Courses are conveniently scheduled to meet only one night per week, Monday through Thursday, in two and one-half-hour blocks. Students are encouraged to take five or more courses in a calendar year to allow them to complete their programs as rapidly as possible.

The evening program offers the working professional a level of flexibility in structuring his or her program, which is not available in the Full-time program. Professional MBA students are permitted to take fewer credits or even skip a semester without penalty. A full offering of MBA coursework is also available during summer sessions.

To serve its professional student population, Kent State University provides evening and weekend hours for many services and facilities. The Graduate School of Management has extended weekday office hours to provide assistance and advising for evening students. The computer lab, library and bookstore also maintain evening hours for the convenience of all students.

Kent Stark and LCCC MBA Program

The Professional MBA program is also offered at both the Kent State Stark Campus and the Lorain County Community College campus, for the convenience of students who live or work in the Canton and Lorain areas. All courses are taught by Kent State faculty of the Graduate School of Management. A general MBA degree is available at the Stark Campus through a mix of in-person courses and courses delivered in an interactive video format, and at the LCCC campus through the interactive video format. Students wishing to pursue a specific concentration may need to take elective courses at the Kent Campus.

Information about the program is available at both the Stark Campus and Lorain County Community College campuses, but application to the MBA program must be made at the Kent campus. An advisor is available by appointment at the Stark campus once a month to assist students with scheduling and application to the program. An advisor is also available by appointment at the LCCC campus to assist students with the application and scheduling process as well.

Contact the Kent Stark Campus at 330.499.9600 for appointments and contact the Graduate School of Management at 330.672.2282 for appointments at the LCCC campus.

MBA/MA Translation

The combined masters degree in translation and business administration is intended for graduate students interested in advanced preparation in foreign language translation and in business administration. This program is designed for students with significant foreign language skills who wish to integrate graduate business education with advanced foreign language translation. This program is offered jointly by the Department of Modern & Classical Languages and the Graduate School of Management. The dual degree is suitable for those whose career goals include assuming middle or executive management positions in international business or language industry enterprises, or who are interested in starting their own businesses in the language services industry.

By pursuing the MA Translation/MBA Dual Degree, students enjoy credit hour savings over pursuing the degrees separately.  Students must earn at least a total of 70-73 credit hours; 25-28 from the MA Translation program (usually 36 credit hours) and 33 from the MBA program (usually 39-54 credit hours).  The Master of Arts in Translation with a concentration in French, German, Japanese, Russian or Spanish is intended for students who wish to pursue professional careers in the language industry, e.g., in translation, localization, or language industry project management or in conjunction with other careers involving multilingual environments, such as international business, social services, or library and information science.

Program requirements consist of core courses from both the MA Translation and the Master of Business Administration degree programs. The Department of Modern & Classical Language Studies and the Graduate School of Management will jointly provide a pre-approved recommended course of study.  Students who wish to follow a different course of study need to obtain separate approvals from both schools’ graduate coordinators.
