Biography:
Charles Nieman earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Educational Administration from Kent State University in 1999. Currently, he holds the position of Director of International Student & Scholar Services for Kent and serves as an Adjunct Professor for the Executive MBA program teaching courses in international studies and intercultural management. Prior to assuming the directorship in International Student & Scholar Services, he served 22 years in the US Army, rising from Private to Lieutenant Colonel and successfully completing three commands. Dr. Nieman has over 14 years experience overseas in Europe, the Middle East, and in North Africa.
Nieman is active in several professional organizations, including the National Association of Foreign Student Advisers (NAFSA), in which he currently serves as Chair for Region VI (Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio), and as a member of the national training corps, specializing in visa issues. He is an active member of Rotary International.
Dr. Nieman's Ph.D. is from Kent State University in Educational Administration with an emphasis in international education. His B.A. (cum laude) is in anthropology from the University of New Mexico, where he earned his M.A. in Public Administration with an emphasis in international and comparative studies. Nieman also holds diplomas from the National Defense University’s Armed Forces Staff College and the U.S. Army’s Foreign Area Officers Course. His primary research interests include topics related to international education, leadership studies, and cross-cultural team building.
