Unique Program Qualities

Kent State University is home to the first academic trading floor with live derivatives exchange data. The Olga A. Mural Financial Engineering Trading Floor cost $2.2M to build and has an annual operating budget of $450,000.

The Kent State Financial Engineering students are introduced to the financial industry through our Guest Speaker/Training Series. Speakers from different areas of the financial industry travel to Kent and spend time talking to the students about their experiences and teaching them about their areas of expertise. The goal is to introduce our students to as many industry experts as possible to provide them with broad coverage of the different facets of the industry. Expert trainers from the major software packages used on our trading floor also visit and conduct formal training.

An enhancement to the Kent State Financial Engineering program are the class trips to Chicago and New York. These trips are designed to introduce the students to the exchanges and additional aspects of the financial industry.

Experience is given to each student through Industry-based Projects (Internships). Internships are ten weeks in length and begin in May.

The industry professionals on our MSFE Advisory Board meet twice a year with the goal of making the program at Kent State meet the needs of employers.
