Dean’s Message

This booklet introduces the faculty and programs of the College of Business Administration at Kent State University. Since its founding in 1936, the College has sought to provide a sound educational base for students who plan careers in business administration, to produce meaningful contributions to scholarly research, and to provide credit and non-credit career educational opportunities for the business community and other publics of our state and our nation.

The academic efforts of the College are centered in the departments of Accounting, Administrative Science, Economics, Finance, and Marketing, which offer programs leading to the Bachelor of Business Administration degree. In the graduate division, students may work toward the degrees Master of Business Administration, Master of Arts in Economics, Master of Science in Accounting, and Doctor of Business Administration, More than 7,000 graduates of the College now hold responsible positions in business and industry, in government, and in educational or other non-profit institutions across the nation and around the world.

Research activities of faculty and students are conducted in each of the academic departments and are promoted and facilitated by the Center for Business and Economic Research. Programs of public service and continuing education in management are offered through the Bureau of Management Development.

During the past decade the College has benefited from the interest, advice and involvement of its Business Advisory Council, composed of representatives of regional, national and international business firms. More recently, a council of College alumni was formed to facilitate interaction between the College and its graduates in the identification of mutual interests and needs. Such support from business and industry and from alumni, along with the active participation of faculty and students, has been fundamental to the growth of the College and its rise to a position of leadership in education for business and management.

In 1973 the College of Business Administration moved into its new headquarters, a contemporary, five-story structure planned and designed to specifically meet the program needs and responsibilities of the College. The formal dedication of this building on May 24, 1973 marked the high point in a year of outstanding programs and activities. Now, with improved physical facilities, a strong and energetic faculty looks forward to still further development of its programs and services. The College of Business Administration is committed to play an important and expanding role in Kent State University’s efforts to develop human resources. It is a commitment and a challenge we accept willingly and with enthusiasm.
